Sealed Terrarium Care

Sealed terrariums are miniature ecosystems that require minimal care and attention. With the right setup, these closed containers can be self-sustaining and require no water or fertilizers. However, there are some key things you need to do to maintain a healthy and thriving terrarium.

1. Choosing the right plants: Select plants that thrive in a humid environment and grow slowly. Avoid aggressive plants that may outgrow the container. Examples of suitable plants include ferns, mosses, and tropical plants that thrive in high humidity environment.

2. Proper soil and drainage: Use a nutrient-rich soil that retains moisture well, but also drains well. Ensure that the soil is not too wet or too dry before planting the plants.

3. Watering: Do not water the terrarium too much. Once the plants are established, you can mist the terrarium occasionally or water it lightly with a watering can. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to mold, mildew, and root rot.

4. Sunlight: Sealed terrariums prefer at least 6 hours indirect light daily. Do not place the container in direct sunlight, as it can cause the plants to wilt or burn. They will thrive well with under table lamp light and office light.

5. Monitoring: Remove brown leaves and do necessary trimming to maintain the shape and health of the plants. Observe the terrarium regularly for any signs of disease or pest infestation. If any issues arise, address them promptly.

In summary, sealed terrariums require minimal care and maintenance. Choosing the right plants, soil, and sunlight is essential for a thriving terrarium. Carefully monitor the terrarium and address any issues promptly to maintain a healthy and self-sustaining ecosystem.
